AFC History

Since it’s beginning the Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church has had a rich and colorful musical history. Our humble beginning was in 1930 with the formation of the Senior and Junior choirs. Church music began to change during the late 1950’s, and being lead by the Holy Spirit, our church music ministry expanded to include the Gospel Choir. The 1970’s saw the addition of the Progressive Choir with it’s focus on the large number of teens and young adults that were part of the church. We were blessed over the years to have had a number of very talented musicians, directors and choir members.

In the seventies and eighties our music ministry continued to progress as both our church and world changed. In 1993 after the split of our congregation and the need for a choir, the Sanctuary Choir was formed under the direction of Vernon Bryant. The group continued to prosper through the turbulent period in our Church’s history, but through it all we endured and continued to provide spiritual comfort through song.

In 1998, the vision to take the choir to the next level took hold and we adopted as our name, The Ambassadors For Christ. We no longer wanted our function to simply be singing within the four walls of the sanctuary. We truly wanted to proclaim the message that there is a living Savior whose purpose is to save our lost and dying world. We realized that each member of this group had a responsibility to live a life that is representative of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We must now continually re-evaluate ourselves and strive to be God’s church influencing our 21st Century Culture. It is truly our blessing to serve as Ambassadors For Christ.

Hi – I’m Earnestine Watts and I am a proud member of the Ambassadors For Christ. I serve as President, and I am also retired Registered nurse. I have been a member of Mt. Hebron M.B. Church for over 55 years. I’m a member of the Board of Trustee , and serve as treasure for the Mt. Hebron Women’s ministry. I am also an active Sunday School participant. Music has always been an integral part of my life, and I love every facet of it. My favorite types of music are gospel, jazz, and blues. As a youth, I was in the Mt. Hebron young people’s choir. I’ve been a member of the Ambassadors For Christ since it was organized and pray that God will continue allowing us to reach higher heights.

Hi – I’m Victoria Walker and I am a proud member of the Ambassadors For Christ. I serve as Vice President as well as a member of our music staff. I have been a member of Mt. Hebron for 2 years. My background in music comes in many forms. I began playing the organ /piano for my church at the age of 12. I have served as organist and choir director as well as Minister of Music for many years. Although I have had formal music education my musical abilities are truly a gift from God! It gives me great pleasure to serve the Lord through music and I am a firm believer of Psalms 100:4 - “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, [and] into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”
